Mei Tai Baby was begun in late 2004 by my friend Julia and me, Elisabeth. We're both stay-at-home moms: Julia has two little boys, Chase and Lake, and I'm mom to three girls: Amelia, Gracie and Ava. Julia and I were mei tai enthusiasts, using our handmade carriers to tote our littlest ones all over our home turf of Chapel Hill, NC. We each started getting so many requests to make mei tais for friends (and strangers!) we decided to go into business together. Our website was officially launched in January, 2005. After a few growing pains, things really started humming. Unfortunately, the pick-up in business coincided with Julia's successful PhD dissertation defense (go Julia!) and subsequent post-doc work, so she regretfully decided to drop out of Mei Tai Baby. Luckily, I found some terrific seamstresses to help me out and Mei Tai Baby continues to grow. Running an at-home business with three rambunctious little girls underfoot can be challenging, but mostly it's a lot of fun. I'm proud of the product I create and am thrilled to be able to help lots of moms and dads stay close to their babies. Thanks to all my terrific customers, and happy babywearing!
