The Mei Tai Baby carrier is very simple to use with just a little practice. Here are some guidelines to get you started. I hope they are helpful, but PLEASE feel free to email me at info@meitaibaby.com if any of the instructions are unclear. Your baby's safety is the number one priority. DO NOT use ANY baby carrier until you are certain you fully understand the instructions for its proper use.
STEPS (FRONT CARRY):
Step 1: Hold carrier upside down by the short straps, decorative panel
facing your legs.
Step 2: Tie carrier in a knot tightly around your waist, like an apron. Take care to tie this tightly, and retie as necessary if the knot should loosen while wearing.
Step 3: Holding baby against your chest, pull the panel up over baby's
back. The fabric of the bottom strap should be between you and your baby.
Step 4: Place the long straps over your shoulders.
Step 5: Cross the long straps across your back. Take care to always support your baby with your hand until the carrier is completely tied. (The "model" baby is a fake, so caution is thrown somewhat into the wind in this photo.)
Step 6: Pull the long straps around to the front and tie securely. With smaller babies, you must tie the straps behind baby's back. This adds some back support and helps close off the open sides of the carrier. With older babies, you can tie the straps underneath
baby's bottom. (Note: newborns may prefer to
stay in the fetal or "frogleg" position instead of spreading their legs around your waist.) Straps are safest when tied in a square knot. If there's enough strap left, you can top the knot with a pretty bow!
STEPS (BACK CARRY):
(Step-by-step photos coming...eventually!)
Step 1: Tie short straps around waist with decorative panel in back, against
the back of your legs.
Step 2: Sit baby on your back while leaning forward. (This can be done most
easily while sitting on a couch or chair.)
Step 3: Bring long straps over your shoulders, pulling panel over baby's
back.
Step 4: Pull straps directly under your arms or cross them on your chest
and tie in back under baby's bottom.
