The Mei Tai Baby carrier is very simple to use with just a little practice. Here are some guidelines
to get you started. I hope they are helpful, but PLEASE feel free to email me at info@meitaibaby.com
if any of the instructions are unclear. Your baby's safety is the number one priority.
DO NOT use ANY baby carrier until you are certain you fully understand the instructions for its proper use.

FRONT CARRY
STEP ONE:
Tie short bottom straps around waist with decorative panel against your legs.
STEP TWO:
Take care to tie this strap very firmly, and retie if it should loosen while wearing.
STEP THREE:
Hold baby against your chest while pulling panel up over baby's back. Baby's knees should be bent, and baby's bottom should be lower than her knees.
STEP FOUR:
Still holding baby with one hand, place long straps over your shoulders.
STEP FIVE:
Cross straps on your back and bring them around to the front. ALWAYS keep straps taut, as they are supporting the weight of your baby.
STEP SIX:
Tie securely around baby's back (small babies) or under baby's bottom (older babies). When carrying a small baby, straps MUST tie around baby's back to close off the open sides of the carrier.

BACK CARRY (beginner)
STEP ONE:
Spread carrier out decorative panel side down on a soft chair or sofa.
STEP TWO:
Place baby on carrier, just below the middle. bring bottom edge of carrier up between baby's legs, bottom strap across baby's tummy.
STEP THREE:
Sit down in front of baby, with her centered on your back and her legs straddling your waist. Tie the bottom strap very firmly around your waist.
STEP FOUR:
Reach back and grasp the long straps. Pull them over your shoulders, bringing the carrier up over baby's back and pulling baby's body towards you.
STEP FIVE:
Supporting baby's weight by holding tightly to the shoulder straps, slowly come to a standing position. Once upright, gently bounce baby a couple of times while pulling up firmly on the straps. This helps ensure baby is properly nestled down in the carrier.
STEP SIX:
Pull straps over shoulders. Straps can either be crossed on your chest, or pulled directly under your arms as shown ("rucksack style").
STEP SEVEN:
Next, tie a secure knot around baby's back or under her bottom. Or, if your straps are long enough, try twisting them around each other in an "X", then bringing them under baby's legs and around your waist to tie in front.
STEP EIGHT:
Experiment to see what works best for you!

BACK CARRY (advanced)
STEP ONE:
Tie carrier around waist, decorative panel against back of legs, long straps hanging down.
STEP TWO:
Pick up baby and place her on your hip.
STEP THREE:
Slide baby onto back while leaniing forward. Baby's weight should be supported by your arm and on your back.
STEP FOUR:
Leaning forward at a 90º angle with baby lying on your back, legs around your waist, reach back and grasp the long straps. Pull the carrier up over baby's back.
STEP FIVE:
Take care to assure that baby is centered in the carrier. (Use a mirror to check baby's position while you're practicing.)
STEP SIX:
Slowly stand upright, maintaining a tight hold on the long straps as the carrier takes the weight of your baby. Give baby a couple of gentle bounces while pulling up on the straps to nestle baby down in the carrier.
STEP SEVEN:
Follow steps 6-8 from the beginner back carry instructions to tie the long straps.
STEP EIGHT:
This "advanced" back carry is easier to master than it looks. Give it a try! Practice over a soft surface until you feel comfortable with the technique.
